A Brief History of YAA
1975 The first youth refuge in NSW opened
   
1979 YAA began as the Youth Refuge Action Group, then changed to Youth Refuge and Accommodation Association.
   
1981 At a National Homelessness Conference in Canberra the National Youth Coalition for Housing (NYCH) began
   
1983 The first “Shelter or the Streets Campaign” was held.
   
1984 The first NSW State Youth Housing Conference was convened by YRAA in Minto.
   
1985 SAAP 1 began. YAA became publicly known as YAA.
   
1989 YAA moved to Trades Hall in the Sydney CBD to co-locate with Shelter NSW
   
1990 YAA lost its own core funding

HOT HIV/AIDS project began it’s 12 month pilot phase.

1999 YAA moved to Elizabeth St Redfern where it is currently located.
   
2000 YAA began to take up temporary auspices of services with Wurwallin House being the first.
   
2001 In a major overhaul. The constitution was redrafted and adopted by the membership.
   
2005 YAA is written into the NSW Bilateral Agreements for SAAP V, to be the key point of consultation for Youth Homelessness in NSW
   
2006 The first Youth Homelessness Matters Day was launched during youth week.
   
2008 Youth Homelessness Conference revived and called "STOP, REVIVE, SURVIVE 08"
