HOT Game Kit
The HOT Game was first developed in 1994, and HOT has used a participatory Action Research model to evaluate the Game in an ongoing way with both young people and youth workers since its inception. Over the years that the HOT Game has been in development it has proven to be an excellent way to facilitate awareness of the issues identified in HOT’s aims among the target group. The Game was originally played by the HOT educators and Peer Educators with young people at youth services, however this proved resource intensive and unsustainable. The HOT Project now offers training to workplaces in playing the HOT Game with young people. The HOT Kit consists of the new HOT Game, the Resource Guide and the HOT Stuff DVD.
The original version of the Resource Guide was called The Facilitator’s Guide (to the HOT Game). Initially as each game was created for a specific service, each Facilitator’s Guide was also produced individually. The HOT project realised that this method had become time-intensive and decided to produce a generic guide that could be sent out with the revamped HOT Game.
The Guide was an attempt to introduce the Game to services that were unfamiliar with running sexual health education programs for young service users. It contained a description of how the Game could be adapted as well as suggestions for playing the Game. In more recent times, HOT has continued to receive feedback from services that youth workers felt uncomfortable around their level of health knowledge. In response, the HOT Project decided to include a series of ‘Fact Sheets’ on sexual health, contraception, safer sex and safer drug use.
The HOT Kit is available to buy for $111 including GST and P&P. It contains the HOT Game and Resource Guide as well as the HOT Stuff DVD.

HOT Stuff DVD
Along with the revamped HOT Game, and the Resource Guide, HOT produced a DVD 'HOT Stuff' last year. HOT Stuff was produced in conjunction with young people and FPA Health. It is an 11 minute drama focussing on young people and sexual health as well as blood-borne viruses and drugs and alcohol. It is available to buy for the new price of $22 including GST and P&P.

One 2 one resource
One 2 One is a sexual health education resource designed for use in one on one conversations with homeless/at-risk young people. It came about through a series of consultations with youth workers, and was put together by HOT with a team of youth accommodation and youth health workers.
The One 2 One manual is packed full of activities and resources to assist youth workers to incorporate sexual health discussions into their case work with young people. It covers a broad range of sexual health issues ranging from self esteem, relationships and communication skills through to decision making skills, power in relationships and how drug/alcohol use impacts on our sexual health.
One of the aims of HOT trainings is to strengthen the links between youth workers and their local youth health or sexual health service. In line with this, youth friendly health professionals from the local area are part of each HOT training, providing basic sexual health information to youth workers, and informing participants about ways in which their service can work in collaboration with youth workers to meet the needs of homeless/at-risk young people. Training participants have indicated it has been helpful to meet these people and to gain understanding of current sexual health issues in their area, and about what is involved in visiting a youth health or sexual health service.
Feedback on both the One 2 One resource and trainings run throughout Western Sydney at the end of last year has been very positive! Here are some of the comments we’ve received about the kit:
- I think the kit is fabulous
- This kit will not sit on the shelves!
- Great for use in case management…fantastic tools available

- Bright colors are great!

Tatts packs
The ever popular Tatts Packs are back in two designs – an Aboriginal flag and a Asian dragon. The Tatts packs contain a condom and lube along with safer sex resources and a temporary tattoo. They were developed to be used as part of health promotion programs for at-risk young people.

Hep C stickers
The Hep C stickers were developed in conjunction with Youthblock and the Hep C Council, and feature sections of the Marrickville Council Hep C mural at Marrickville Station. They are designed to be used as part of a health promotion program. Warning: they are not for general distribution!
