The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course was developed to assist various members of the community to understand and respond to mental illness in a more positive way and with the view to obtaining appropriate treatment and interventions.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid program aims to help adults to support young people with a mental illness or who are perhaps struggling with mental health issues. Participants will learn knowledge and evidence based treatments with regards to Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Substance Use Disorder, Non Suicidal Self Injury and Eating Disorders. The course also provides skills in relation to how to respond to panic attacks, suicide, trauma, overdose and psychotic episodes.

This course is aimed at teaching participants to provide a first aid response and to assist young people to access appropriate support. It does not aim to teach participants how to provide clinical interventions but information about these interventions will be provided.
This course also will include manuals, a resource CD and handouts for all participants.
