On any given night around Australia there are 100,000 people who are homeless. Over half of these are people under the age of 25 (Chaimberlain and MacKenzie, 2001).
The aim of YHMD is to raise public awareness about youth homelessness and to celebrate the resilience of young people who have or are experiencing homelessness in Australia. YHMD has been running for 4 years and it is building in momentum each year. In 2008, there were approximately 15 organised events held around NSW including a photography exhibition with photo's taken by young people experiencing homelessness, basketball competitions and many street stalls in both city and regional areas.
If you are interested in being involved in YHMD2009 please contact George on 96985833 (ext 8) or via the webform on our contacts page and join the NSW woking group. It is a great way to increase your networks with services across the state and be involved in a National event that really MATTERS!
Youth Homelessness is everybody's business! If youth homelessness matters to you, show your support for homeless young people and get involved!
