Who We Are
The Youth Accommodation Association is a peak body that works for young people
experiencing or at risk of homelessness as well as youth accommodation and support
services in NSW. From its initial inception in 1987, then known as the Youth Refuge
Action Group, YAA has worked for these Young People.
The Association is a network of member services working with young people,
government organisations, concerned individuals, and other organizations that may
deal with young people. What joins us together is the conviction to ensure that young
people receive appropriate support through a comprehensive youth housing system.
By working with a range of NGO’s, Government departments & Community members, YAA has sought to develop a range of policies to improve the service provision to youth accommodation services & to keep youth homelessness firmly on the political
agenda. YAA works closely with other peak organizations such as Homelessness ACT.
NSW, Women’s Refuge Resource Centre & the Youth Action Policy Association among
others. We work on a National level through the National Youth Coalition of Housing &
the Australian Federation of Housing Organisations. YAA is home to several different
projects. These include:
Policy & Projects
A priority for YAA is to advocate and develop policies to support the capacity and
sustainability of the SAAP sector in their work with young people experiencing
homelessness.
Youth Emergency Accommodation Line (YEAL)
YEAL provides a simple & reliable way for young people to connect with suitable
accommodation services across NSW. YEAL provides referrals for crisis through
to medium/long term services. It also produces a Directory of accommodation and
support services for homeless young people in NSW.
Health Outreach Team (HOT)
The goal of HOT is improve the sexual health of young people who are experiencing,
or at risk of, homelessness. HOT provides a range of training & resources for youth
workers to assist them in health promotion & is developing a Youth Consultants
program.
Auspice Projects
YAA currently Auspices three youth Accommodation Services: Allawah House,
Wruwallin House & Options Youth Housing.
