Tonight, the youth homelessness peak, Yfoundations, is hosting the NSW launch of Youth Homelessness Matters Day for 2012 at its “Get youthy” event at the Youth Centre, Redfern Community Centre at 6pm - 8.30pm showcasing art, video and music contributions and fun activities from young people. The event is open to the public and local community. We invite all people in the community to be part of the solution and to join our work to end youth homelessness in this prosperous country.
Across NSW there are thousands of workers and volunteers, in specialist youth homelessness services, youth services and Government agencies for whom every day is youth homelessness matters day.
This Wednesday, the 18th of April isYouth Homelessness Matters Day, when across NSW, youth workers around the community will hold over 25 events, ranging from the humble local sausage sizzle to more ambitious events such as You Tube campaigns and street theatre.

Latest figures report that in the quarter ending September 2011 over 50% of the 91,627 people that were supported by specialist homelessness services were young adults, young people and children under the age of 25 years.
Recent data also states that 50% of young people requesting accommodation are turned away because the capacity of the homelessness system is full or ‘blocked’ (i.e not enough ways for people to exit the system). We need to scale up the resources and effort. No young person in Australia should be homelessness or living ‘out of homewithout care’.
